Tsumego vs. Pro

This is a brand-new event debuting at this year’s European Go Congress.

How to participate?

  1. At the info desk, pick up a sheet with three life & death problems for your level:

- Double-digit kyu

- Single-digit kyu

- Dan

2. Choose one problem to solve (only one, and only from your level). Mark the first move of your solution and write the final result (ALIVE, DEAD, or KO). Each problem is Black to play.

3. Submit your solution by Tuesday, 29.07 at the Info Desk. Don't forget to sign your name on your solution sheet!

4. Come to the Main Event.

Main Event – Wednesday, 30.07 at 19:00, Main Playing Hall

Come well prepared to present your solution! Selected participants will be invited to the demonstration board to compete in live tsumego duels.

Two participants with different solutions will take sides:

- The player claiming the stronger result (e.g., unconditional life/death over a mere ko) plays Black.

- The other plays White and tries to refute the solution.

If both players suggest the same outcome but with different first moves, both will try as Black. The winner stays at the board for the next challenge.

The event will be hosted by Stanisław Frejlak, 2-dan pro, who will guide the matches and select participants to showcase as many variations as possible.

The final participant remaining undefeated will face the Final Boss — Stanisław himself — who will try to refute their solution!

Prizes

All who attend the main event on 30.07 will receive a small commemorative gift.

For each problem, the lowest-rated player according to GoR who submitted a correct solution and wasn't defeated in a duel will receive a special prize at the EGC closing ceremony.
